O’Dell Engineering, a Westwood company provided non-traffic related improvements to the Caltrans interchange at Whitmore Avenue and Highway 99. The project included 1.3 acres of space within the Caltrans and City of Ceres right-of-way. The project required a creative approach to aesthetics and formal landscape in order to keep landscape installation costs below Caltrans standard thresholds while ensuring that visual appeal remained a priority. Close coordination between multiple Caltrans District 10 Departments and the City of Ceres was required in order to obtain all necessary approvals and permits. Improvements included additional fencing, jack and boring of a new water line under Whitmore Avenue, geo-web slope stabilization, cobble installations, stamped concrete, irrigated landscape, and areas of native wildflower hydro-seed.
